Day 3 in Fiji

Dear Sally,

Today is Day 3 in Fiji. So far the trip has been swell. The first day was absolutely gorgeous. We mostly laid around in the sun and I was grateful for the few passing clouds.

The breakfast buffet was excellent because the majority of buffets are excellent. That is what makes buffets special. There was also all you can drink champagne included in this buffet. Between the food and the drinks, I made sure we got our money’s worth ten times over. Later in the day, I had ice cream which was quite a treat. The ice cream parlor was no more than 30 ft. from our room. They even had milkshakes which are referred to as “thickshakes” (if you order a “milkshake” they would just give you flavored milk). Unfortunately, an opportunity did not present itself to enjoy this tasty delight. Hopefully, I can make up for this lost opportunity down the road.

Yesterday, we took a catamaran to a tiny Fijian island, the name escapes me. It was a nice ride and we got to go snorkeling. On this trip we made some fabulous new friends from New Zealand and Australia. We bonded over a few drinks which were the perfect appetizer for our boat ride back to the port. The waves we encountered transformed the catamaran into a thrilling ride at the water park. We were soaking wet throughout the trip. It actually felt good when we got splashed though because I swear the water was like 90 degrees! Afterwards, we went back to our new friends’ place for pizza and drinks which was a lot of fun. They gave us some good pointers for the rest of our trip (e.g. tip NO ONE!!!! :p ).

Day 3 is off to an adventurous start. We are flying to Taveuni on a tiny propeller plane. It looks like it only holds about 16 people. We are sitting behind the cockpit which lacks a door. So it is different, if not interesting, in that I can see every action that the pilots make. I must say that so far the trip has exceeded my expectations. The Westin, catamaran trip, food, propeller plane, and people have all been exceptional. Here’s to hoping that the remainder of our time in Fiji is just as fabulous.

I love milkshakes,

Justin
